It's Been Quite A Year...

Hello and Happy New Year Dear Blog Readers!
It's been a few weeks since I last posted here and what a crazy time it's been, what with moving and trying to unpack two homes into one, and most of this being done during the holiday season! Though my life has been crazy lately, I couldn't let the end of the year pass by without writing a few words here on the blog...

There is still much to do with my new studio space, but I thought some of you might like a peek at the unpacking progress I've made:

You can actually see the floor in this image - HOORAY!

My dear boyfriend and I still have a LOT of unpacking ahead of us as the new year looms, but we managed to unpack his little Christmas tree and it was decorated by Christmas Eve, so we certainly weren't lacking in holiday spirit in our new home!

Life has been so hectic this month, I'm behind on my year-end journaling to close out the old year and to look ahead to the new year on the horizon. Luckily, I carved out a little time to join an online workshop to create an exploding box 'year-in-review' hosted by Jen Lee, author of "The Right Brain Business Plan"!* Joining the workshop spurred me to unpack my art supplies and I was able to unpack enough of them to create my box...

My exploding box in progress - I'm looking forward to adding my accomplishments of 2013 in it!

My own art books and Word of the Year journal have been in temporary storage, so I didn't have any of my writings to review what I had written for 2013. However, Jen Lee had some great prompts to work with and I had the opportunity to look back on this blog to see what some of my accomplishments for the year had been...

I sure am glad to have this blog and I sure am glad you are here to read my adventures, accomplishments and challenges!

Now, I won't go into details today, but looking back, I DID have quite a few accomplishments, even though this year felt like I had more challenges than I had accomplishments.

Looking forward, I've been considering what my Word of the Year should be for 2014 and this word has been on my mind A LOT:

MONEY

For 2013, my Word of the Year was Creative Work, but the year really feels as though its been more HARD WORK than creative work and it seems to me that MONEY should follow after so much hard work!

I am aware that the word MONEY is a loaded one and I'm aware that using this word to guide me in 2014 will provide more than a fair share of challenges but, after the year I've had, I believe I'm ready to face those challenges!

Here are a few mindsets, behaviors and beliefs that need to be busted in 2014:
  • I believe it is time for me to face my money issues and money fears and LEARN HOW TO ACCEPT FINANCIAL WEALTH into my life. For most of my life I've seen myself as 'the poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks' and that view has been the basis for my lifestyle of flea market and thrift store goods, buying things on sale and feeling that I could never have 'the best', whether I deserved it or not...
  • I believe it is time for me to CREATE A POSITIVE AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP TO MONEY and how it can be used for good things in life, not just for me but for those around me.
  • I believe it is time for me to STEP INTO MY OWN EARNING POWER, instead of relying on the employment provided by companies (which really hasn't worked out very well these past few years!)
  • I believe it is time for me to RETURN TO SAVING MONEY, not because I 'should' but because it's a good practice that can benefit everyone.
  • I believe it is time for me to learn that FINANCIAL WEALTH CAN BE A POSITIVE FORCE in my life, that it can ENHANCE MY LIFE and provide a means to SUPPORT ME AND THE WORK I DO.
  • I believe it is time for me to learn that having MONEY will NOT make me a mean or terrible person, contrary to this eye-opening TED TALK (It does end on a positive note!)

Yes, it looks like I have my 'work' cut out for me using MONEY as my guide in 2014, but I know that I will come out on the other side wiser about myself, which is something I always strive for...

I will certainly share my journey with MONEY here on the blog and I hope you'll check in to read my adventures in creating a better relationship with MONEY and I hope you'll find my sharing helpful to YOU in your own life.

Of course, I will also share my creative projects, as I always do, in addition to my workshop ideas and places I'll be teaching, here on the blog.

I often share my news on my Facebook page or in my monthly newsletter. So stop by my Facebook page and say hello, or, if you'd like to sign up to my newsletter, just email me at:

thecreativebeast(@)gmail(dot)com

I often add little tidbits in the newsletter that I don't always share on my blog and my newsletter is sent only once a month so you won't be flooded with emails, I promise!

I hope you are looking forward to an exciting new year in 2014 and I hope you'll continue being CREATIVE in the new year...

A Happy New Year to you all filled with much Love, Luck, Health and Happiness in 2014!

Thank Goodness It's FRIDAY...

Hello Dear Blog Readers!
Things are really revving up as my last days in my home come to a close and the possibilities to come in my new home are on the horizon!

It's also been a week with some sadness, as my dear boyfriend and I attended an Irish wake to celebrate the life of an amazing woman of vitality, vibrancy and joyful energy...

Yes, its been quite a week and I am thankful for Friday. Here are some things I feel ever so grateful for this particular week:

Celebrating another year of life and celebrating being alive with good health, both physical and mental...

Celebrating the life of an amazingly VIBRANT woman at an Irish wake (my first!) with many dear old friends, great Irish music and some Irish dancing...

Celebrating my birthday with my dear boyfriend and focusing on having FUN, with no thought about all the moving tasks on my plate...

A fun 'cocktail' hat - I have not actually worn this hat because I hope to make one with pink 'frosting' to wear for next year!

Ever so thankful for good friends in my life who have been visiting me this week to celebrate my birthday AND the big move ahead...

Always thankful for my fabulous Life Coach, Pete Lee - I love the abundant positive support he provides, as well as a space to share all my feelings and uncertainty...

Thankful for hearing Pete tell me how proud he is of ME, as I navigate this tremendous change and shift in my life...I'm still soaking this one in!

Thankful for Trader Joe's and the FREE boxes I've been getting to help me with my move!

Thankful for my dear boyfriend reminding me that he is available to help me...

Thankful for an old friend hosting a yard sale so I can sell some goods to earn some money!

Thankful for completing one more recycled garment project, despite the moving tasks...

Thankful its FRIDAY!!

What are YOU thankful for this Friday?? I'd love to hear what you're celebrating this weekend!

Thankful Thursday...

Hello Dear Blog Readers!
It's been a hectic week, with more to come before the end of this month, because...

I'M MOVING!

Soon, I will share more about this exciting development that has been in the works for the past few weeks, but for now, I want to express my thankfulness:

For my dear boyfriend's determination in doing what was needed to acquire the place we liked the best of all the apartments we looked at...

A sneak peek at my future new studio space!

For my wonderful Life Coach Pete, in helping me learn tools and techniques for being grounded in the face of difficulties...and there were some difficulties! ;)

Thankful for the well wishes of many good friends during the hunt for a new home and for their positive support when obstacles came our way...

Thankful for having begun the process of cleaning out many of my books before this move came along, though I still have quite a few books I'm bringing to my new home!

Thankful to have a little time to work on my recycled dress project, which needs only a few details before I can really call it complete...

Thankful to have lived another year with MANY reasons to celebrate my birthday on Sunday...

What are YOU thankful for today?? I'd love to hear your list of gratitudes!

Thankful Thursday...

Hello Dear Blog Readers!
Though Blogtoberfest is over, there were some fun prompts I chose to work with that I am thinking of doing for the rest of the year, if not beyond. "Sunday Snippets" is one and "Thankful Thursday" is another...

Actually, it makes sense to have a "Thankful Thursday" all month, since Thanksgiving Day falls on a Thursday, so here is my list of things I'm thankful for this week...

I'm thankful for my fabulous Life Coach Pete - working with him has really helped me gain better focus on what I want in my life and I've learned some great techniques for coping with negative feelings and self-doubt...

I'm thankful that I am nearly finished with my recycled t-shirt dress project - it didn't quite turn out as I'd envisioned, but I like what it is becoming...

The sleeves have changed and some elements I wanted to add no longer work, but I love how this dress is shaping up!

I'm thankful for receiving a beautiful gift of jewelry*, a gorgeous hand-beaded pendant made of vintage elements. I have ideas for creating a special necklace 'chain' to wear it with...

A gorgeous pendant made by an amazing artisan - I'll share some ideas I have for a special 'chain' I plan to make for this pendant...

I'm thankful for having great friends who have been supportive as I begin the process of moving out of my old place and into the possibilities of a wonderful future in a new home with my dear boyfriend...

My dear boyfriend is rather shy so I don't share real photos of him, but he created this for us...His hair is not that messy, except in the morning! ;)

I'm thankful for the opportunity to begin teaching some of my creative workshops at a local community college AND for some inspiration to create a fun new workshop for the new year, as well...

A sneak peek at my first creative workshop for 2014 - "Calendar Compositions"...stay tuned for details!

What are YOU thankful for today??

* - Kathryn, you were right - it IS a necklace piece of jewelry!!

Thankful for some AMAZING Scrap-O-Dex art cards arriving in my mail box!

Thankful for getting some book binding done this week:

Thankful for making progress on this dress project, though I've changed the sleeves a bit:

Thankful for my good health...

Thankful for hearing a meaningful message when I needed it most...

Thankful for good friends who are GREAT listeners...

Thankful for another fun year of Blogtoberfest!! I will miss the daily posts, but I'm ready for a break, which is much needed as I move forward with some big changes and transitions in the weeks ahead...

Blogtoberfest 2013 - Talkative Tuesday

Hello Dear Blog Readers!
Can you believe that there are only 3 days left of Blogtoberfest? Time does fly, especially when ones life is packed with change and transition...

Many of you readers know that I have been cleaning and clearing a lot out of my home in an effort to manifest better things into my life, like more meaningful and creative work, more teaching and sharing my skills and experience with others and, especially, a new home in a nice neighborhood, something I first wrote about in this blog post...

One way I have been attempting to clean and clear my abundant sewing supplies has been to start cutting the projects my fabrics were bought/meant for!

Fabric bought to make aprons is now cut into an apron to be sewn!

I began cutting fabric projects in the hopes I can head to this sewing studio to rent some studio time to use the industrial machines to sew on. The industrial machines are much faster than home sewing machines, which means I would get more sewing accomplished in less time!

I am also cutting some projects that can be made up on my overlock sewing machine at home, and this newest project can be assembled in 10 to 20 minute time slots since it's a 'patchwork' project - my recycled t-shirt dress in shades of periwinkle and indigo blues:

The bodice/top is already sewn together - now to sew the 'patches' together and assemble all parts of the dress...

Cutting my projects in preparation for sewing might have been one of the best ideas I've had for awhile, especially since cutting projects is my least favorite aspect of sewing!

When I have an idea to create a new garment, I go through the concept of creating the garment in my head so often, I forget that it still needs to be CUT OUT before I can actually sew it into reality!

If I can just cut my projects in preparation to sewing them, I think I can downsize my bins of fabrics so there will be less to take with me when I move...

Yes, Dear Blog Readers, it now looks like I will be moving in the near future and I am struggling with this big change and transition...which made me think of Day of the Dead...

"Day of the Dead" aka "Dia De Los Muertos", celebrates loved ones who have transitioned from this life into a new life in another world...

This past weekend, I attended a Day of the Dead festival at a local museum. I saw a performance of a wonderful storyteller, who performs with his wife and children and it was a wonderful show with amazing music.

Now, why am I thinking of Day of the Dead as a move from my home is imminent?

While watching the storytelling, there seemed to be many messages in the course of the show, which was about the meaning and history of Day of the Dead:

Day of the Dead is not about the finality of Death because Death is not final but a transition into another world and so, Day of the Dead is a CELEBRATION of TRANSITION

So, I am trying to embrace and celebrate this change and transition as it comes into my life...

I hope to share this chapter of my life with you in the weeks to come, though it may not be easy as my time becomes filled with the logistics of packing and moving, but I might be able to share my prepped projects as they become completed projects, so be sure to stay tuned!

Blogtoberfest 2013 - Photomosaic Monday

Hello Dear Blog Readers!
Today I'm excited to share some photos I shot at a wonderful Day of the Dead event I attended this weekend...I hope you enjoy them!
